Stonehaven is a coastal area of NE Scotland. 30 min south of Aberdeen.
Stonehaven has a thriving tourist industry for sighting and attractions such as:
Dunnottar Castle, where the crown jewels had been placed under the Scottish rebellion for protection, which was invaded by Oliver Cromwell's English army men. Dunnottar Castle lay under siege for three months before victory had been claimed for Oliver over the Scottish rebels, but failed to take the Scottish crown jewels while the bloody siege was taking place. The crown jewels had been lowered in a basket down to a boat by the Minister and his wife of Kinneff Kirk (church) then hid them under the floor boards of the Kirk (church) which situated 8 miles south of Stonehaven.
Amongst other attractions there is a Bird Sanctuary at Crawton Fowlsheugh, the seasonal time for Puffins, Razorbill, Gannets etc is from May to July. As well as Seals and abundance of other wild life, not to mention the fantastic rugged coastal scenic view, But my favourite the bottle-Nosed Dolphin, our crown jewels of the north sea of today, which I have been researching for eight years.
As well as Bottle-Nosed Dolphins there have been Whitebeaked Dolphins, Minky Whale and Harbour Porpoise which are the four regular species spotted in this area. Two of these species being seasonal the Whitebeaked Dolphin and the Minky Whale. Humpbacked, Pilot, Killer Whales and Risso Dolphins are usually seen visiting the area.
